Blank edges around the ink are cut away. The signature is then centered on a white background at 140×60, 200×80, or 300×120 pixels, and saved as JPG under 10, 20, 30, or 50 KB. Trim only keeps the cropped signature at its own size and only shrinks it if the KB cap needs it.
JPG cannot store transparency. A white sheet is what most exam and government forms expect, and it stays much smaller than a PNG of the same signature.
